Showstoppers Jr Dance Company Information

Coaches: Katy Gilliland, Liza Melnychenko & Madi Douglass

Showstoppers Junior Dance Company provides more challenging opportunities for dancers in lyrical ballet & jazz. The Company participates in dance competitions and may perform in other events.

Eligibility: Dancers must be in Grades 6th-8th 2025-2026 school term and have experience in ballet & jazz.

Clinic: Tuesday, May 26, 2026 5:00pm-6:30pm Showstoppers Dance Studio. Students will learn the audition routines for lyrical & jazz and practice skills needed for the audition. Dance attire should be worn for the clinic and ballet, ½ soles or jazz shoes.

Clinic & Audition Fee: $25.00 per person due no later than Thursday, May 21, 2026. Fee should be paid with the signed application. The fee non-refundable even if students decide not to audition after the clinic.

Auditions: Wednesday, May 27, 2026 5:30pm at Showstoppers Dance Studio. Students will briefly review routines & skills from clinic. Auditions are closed to the public—dancers & judges only!

Audition Attire Requirements: Black leotard or fitted black athletic top, pink or tan tights, dance shoes. Hot shorts or skirts are optional—no gym shorts. Hair should be fixed out of face & eyes in a bun or ponytail.

Judging Criteria:
Appearance: selection of proper attire, hair, shoes and overall physical appearance.
Technique: performance & precision of routine- arm placement, pointed toes, straight legs, etc.
Balance & Body Control: physical balance, polish & control of body while dancing.
Ability to Learn Quickly & Memorization: remembering the routine correctly & without error.
Personality & Enthusiasm: facial expressions, smile & overall enthusiasm while dancing.

Requirements for Dance Company Members:

Attend summer practices June-August. We know students will miss some practices for vacations, camps, etc. The schedule is provided in the next section.

Must be enrolled at Showstoppers in jazz/hip hop and/or Broadway jazz, ballet/lyrical and/or pointe in Fall 2026. Jr Company class will not replace regular dance classes. If members drop ballet or jazz they will forfeit their membership in the company.

Purchase the following items estimated at $250-$300: lyrical ½ soles, tan shoes, company jacket, black hot shorts, 2-3 dance tops, dance bag, tights as needed. Current members will only need to purchase new tops (if selected) and items that need replacing.

Competition Fees: $60.00-$75.00 for each group dance per competition (2 competitions in the spring)
Workshops & Travel: Workshops or Dance Intensives are estimated $100-200 per workshop. Any dance trips will be decided by the group. Will attend one dance convention in the Fall.
Additional Estimated Expenses: Costumes for company routines $100-$125.00 each.

Fall Commitment: 2 practices/week for lyrical & jazz. 2 practices/week for technique & acro class. These are in addition to regular dance classes.
Follow the dress code in all classes. Provide a hard copy of dancers’ birth certificate.

The number chosen will be determined by scoring after auditions where the natural break occurs. Everyone will be notified by text by Sunday, May 31, 2026. Thank you & good luck!

Additional Information

Absences Summer 2026: Dancers are allowed 2 absences during the summer without consequence. If a member is late to practice or needs to leave early, it will count as an attendance. If a member is sick and cannot participate in class but comes to watch, it will count as an attendance. Studio activities or studio cleaning will be scheduled for members who miss practices beyond the allowed absences.

Please give us the dates you will miss practice in advance-preferably before practices begin in June.

Eligibility: Dancers must be in Grades 3rd-6th 2026-2027 school term and have experience in ballet & jazz.

Showstoppers Senior Dance Company provides more challenging opportunities for dancers in lyrical ballet & jazz. The Company participates in dance competitions and may perform in other events.

Eligibility: Dancers must be 9th grade or older 2026-27 school term & have experience in ballet & jazz/hip hop.

Clinic: Tuesday, May 26, 2026 6:30-8:00pm Showstoppers Dance Studio. Students have the option to audition for jazz/hip hop, lyrical/contemporary or both. Audition routines for lyrical & jazz will be taught at the clinic & and other skills needed for the audition will be reviewed. Dance attire should be worn for the clinic and ballet, ½ soles or jazz shoes.
